How it feels Learning with DevCareer
Discovering DevCareer
I am Kenyan, I honestly had no previous idea about DevCareer but believe me I am more than happy to be apart of this community. I remember my mentor from Pwaniteknowgalz telling me about it and I was so excited to join this non-profit organization. At first I did not know how exactly I was supposed to learn ,apparently I even never knew about slack. Little did I know it was through sprint learning and with great mentors.
When I got the news
This opportunity really means a lot to me because I have passion in technology. I did computer studies in my high school as a subject, I remember telling my dad how I wanted to do computer science and he said that I won't find a job and that I will just work in a movie shop. He wanted me to pursue engineering which was something I partially loved. We could not agree luckily I got a chance to learn how to write codes with Pwaniteknowgalz for free, I kept loving it more and more and desired to learn more programing languages and skills. Although I never owned a laptop i kept working hard in class and did extra work.
I feel blessed having this opportunity. When i was accepted to join I got an through an email from Sir Sultan, I was so happy I remember preparing my favorite meal Biriyani. My friends and I were supposed to start on Monday but the president declared that all public gatherings should not be there, this really broke my heart because this meant the hub would also close . Then one day I remember getting a call from Sir Okoye, asking if I am still interested in this program he can tell you I was more than Happy. I could finally get a laptop, a mentor and great internet at Swahili pot hub to acquire more skills.
I'll commit these 3 months into learning more ,I have a great mentor @flamez and an awesome team @peak performers.I found a family and a platform to keep learning and growing my skills in coding. It can get hard at times but they say practice makes perfect. I am familiar with HTML, CSS and Bootstrap but hardly have a concept on the basics of JavaScript or Es6 thus making it a bit hard on ReactJS, thanks to a great team leader it gets easier together with YouTube Tutorials.
